Dr Will Bar

I first heard about the Dr Will Bar from Gavin about 1.5 to 2 years ago.  One day at work he dropped one on the table and said,”here…try one of these.”  Dr Will had a recipe for this bar and would bring it into his office so that staff and patients could try it.  I tried the bar and I must say that it is the best nutrition bar I’ve ever had.

Dr Will is a local doctor and everything from the ingredients to the packaging is from local sources.

Ingredients: Peanut Butter, Flax Seed, Oats, Corn Syrup, Pumpkin Seed, Brown Sugar, Cranberries, Cherries, Sunflower Seeds, Almonds, Puffed Rice, Whey Protein, Coconut.

The original recipe called for honey but in the mass produced version of the bar, corn syrup has replaced the honey

I was talking to QW about honey bees recently.  He says that most of the honey is imported from China…but not directly.  It comes to the US by way of India so as to hide the real origin of the honey.

I heard on NPR that the north american honey bee population is dwindling…last friday i listened to a program about someone who discovered that the dwindling honey bee population was due to a fly that was injecting the honey bee abdomen with it’s eggs.  As the larvae hatch, they eat the honey bee from the inside.  As this is happening, the honey bee leaves the hive at night and flies towards any light source and then dies.  The researcher discovered the larvae when he had scooped up a bunch of dead honeybees near a light source.  The jar was sealed and when he returned to work after a weekend, he discovered a jar full of fly larvae.  Since the jar was sealed, they could only have come from inside the honeybee.

This next picture was taken on Mississippi Ave.  This part of Mississippi is a historic neighborhood.  It’s lined with small shops and restaurants.
